##### Speed to go out of earth
« on: April 01, 2008, 09:37:33 AM »
In continue to another post that you have about free fall, this is another one.

I once had heard that if someone wants to fly out of the earths magnetic field, the only thing to do, is to get a predetermined speed. This speed is quite fast but it will get you out of earth, and the mass that this object has DOES NOT COUNT in the calculation.

Does anyone know about this anything?

Well, what you describe seems to me like the escape velocity.

The escape velocity is the speed that an object needs to get out of the gravitational field of another object (like a shuttle to go out of earths field) without any propulsion.

The escape velocity is not depending from the mass of the object. Does not matter if it weights 1Kg or 10.000Kg

And how much is this escape velocity if anyone knows?

You mean that spacecrafts must reach this enormous speed otherwise they do not go outerspace?

No. Spacecrafts have propulsion systems (turbines and stuff).
This speed is for something that will be thrown from the surface of earth to the sky with this speed.
From then on, it will have nothing to force it forward.
